Upgrade Indian Rosewood on BTO
« on: November 14, 2012, 10:59:12 PM »
Hello to everyone.  I have been lurking through the forum for several months, but have not posted until now.  I currently own a Taylor GA4 and am lusting for a custom BTO GC model, or maybe 12 fret for a 50th birthday present to myself.  I think I may go with IR and see on the price list that there is an option to upgrade the IR for a couple hundred extra bucks.  I have assumed that the upgrade is more cosmetic than tonal, but would really appreciate anybody else's view or experience.  I am also drawn to a cedar top and views on cedar over IR would also be interesting.

Welcome Drake!Glad to have you here!   ;D

I think you're right from what I've read...that IR is IR.  Cosmetically, I believe that the tighter/straighter grain is reserved for those really upper end models...like the 900's and the BTO's etc.

Cedar......is WONDERFUL!  It's very sensitive to touch...very warm sounding.  You can't drive it as hard as spruce etc, but it will definitely hold it's own.
