Sometimes when it rains, it then rains a little harder...
« on: January 05, 2015, 03:15:44 PM »
Many of us have a list of guitars that we would love to get back, but I have never been able to pull this off until just prior to this Christmas. I recently repurchased a Taylor 524 First Edition (#64/100) that I had purchased new but foolishly sold.  There is something about the tone of the First Edition 524, perhaps the CV bracing, that just really nails it for me. It took me a while to find that particular model at Shoreline Music in Durango originally because production was limited to 100 guitars and an even smaller number came without pickup and cutaway which was the way I wanted it. After several discussions here and on AGF, I've been reminded time and again that most people want cutaway and factory electronics so those guitars that come without either are fewer and farther between. Mine has been the minority opinion so I'm guessing that very few of the 100 First Edition GAs were produced sans cutaway/electronics. Anyhow, over Christmas I was browsing Ebay and found that #63 of the series (which also lacked cutaway and factory electronics) was for sale. To make a long story short, it's on the way to Charlottesville as I write this post. Will post a picture of the family after she arrives....

This one really resonates with me, because I'm also a non-cutaway guy. If I found a guitar that really spoke to me with a tasteful cutaway, it wouldn't be a deal-breaker. However, every acoustic guitar that I have ever owned (including the ones I have today) has no cutaway. Secondly, I'm still in love with the GA size, despite all the other Taylor (and other manufacturer's) sizes available. It's still the best in my book. Lastly, Taylor has just gotten so-o-o-o good at making great-sounding hardwood top guitars - maybe it is the Adi CV bracing (that's what my custom K24e has as well). So you've hit the trifecta in bringing one of these FE 524s back home.

I'm very exited for you and can't wait to see the pics!
