TAYLOR V CABLE....ANY EXPERIENCE?
« on: November 03, 2015, 02:35:20 PM »
just read about them last week.....if I have a passive pickup installed, and I find myself away from the pre amp vol controls during a song....do they work? reviews seem to be up and down, so to speak!

I had one for a while, when I bought a used GS Mini with the ES Go pickup.  I passed it along when I sold that guitar.  It seemed like a quality cable, and there was (surprisingly) no "pop" noise when unplugging if the volume was turned all the way down.  It worked pretty well as a volume control, since the pickup itself did not have one.  That's about all I have to offer.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.

I have one for my GS Mini with the ES-Go pickup.  My experience is similar to Earl's; about all I could add is that I seem to get a bit more noise (hiss) using that cable than with the 'regular' ones I have to use with my other Taylor guitars with the ES system.

thanks Earl and Tim.....sounds like OK experiences for you guys.....main negative I read was the volume "level changing" wasn't very even , from 1-10, so to speak...kinda turn, turn, turn, and then a big change in volume all at once....maybe just one person's opinion.....which made it more useful for quick changing of instruments, to eliminate the PA "pop" if the sound board wasn't turned down yet when chord was pulled, etc.....at $50 I thought I better at least ask for an opinion or two before grabbing one....appreciate your input as always!

If you put a ES-GO pick up in the Mini it's almost needed ..I bought one for my Mini but think you should look and see if there's any warranty cause I never forced or abused mine and one day right out of the blue when you turn up the volume control its stops , well it kept going round and round so I threw it out. .I was a little  choked  cause this is not a 10 dollar cord .

It is a bit tricky to make a "pot" (potentiometer) that varies the volume smoothly.  Far more common to have one that is non-linear - that goes suddenly from one level to a much higher one.  I always thought that was why the V cable was so expensive compared to other cables, because it had better components.  But as I said before, I have not used one very much so I don't know how they might hold up over time with use.  Sounds like you and Louis have both had less than satisfying experiences.

I have one I use with a K&K Pure Mini in my 12 fret GC. Works fine.
