Hello from Bristol, England
« on: February 12, 2016, 02:01:11 AM »
Hello Everyone

Thought I'd drop by an introduce myself!

I'm Martin, soon to be 30 years old, from Bristol in England.

As of last Monday I purchased my first Taylor guitar! I won't be getting my hands on it until May (it's partly going to be a 30th birthday gift from myself(!) and family - so that's the reason for the wait!)

I'll save the details for the NGD thread when the time comes  ;D

I thought I'd sign up here in the meantime and meet fellow Taylor buddies!

I've been playing for about 8 months now, still very much a beginner but loving every minute and going at my own pace...at times when I feel frustrated, I think back to just 8 short months ago and how much progress I've made since then, then I realise it's a lifelong passion and learning, and not something to wish is instantly perfect overnight!

Cheers
Martin

Welcome to the forum Martin, and congratulations on your new gift. What have you ordered?  And good to know things are going in the right direction - there have been a few posts recently from frustrated "learners", but I think you have exactly the right outlook.  And when you get your hands on your new Taylor, you'll probably be even more inspired.  Good luck...

Welcome to the forum, Martin! Looking forward to your NGD post. Having a Taylor helps in learning, because they are easy to play and sound so good. Plus, when you love your guitar (which you will), it makes you want to play/practice. Great choice in buying a Taylor.

Thanks George!

I'm 'frustrated' but in a good way - it comes from a burning desire to improve. Not the 'I want to throw my guitar out the window' type frustration!

It doesn't help that I often try and play pieces that are well beyond my level, just for 'fun' (yeah, right!) and then that makes me long even more to reach that level. It's all good! Every now and again you pull something off and have that 'whoa, I couldn't have done that a few months ago' moment, and it really reaffirms your confidence that you are improving, however slowly it might feel.

I've ordered a 300 series but I'll save the remaining details for my NGD thread when the time comes...it just adds to my excitement. I feel like a kid at Christmas...well, if a kid had to wait three months for his present  ;D

Thanks Susie! It'll certainly be a very nice upgrade from my laminated back and sides Tak that I currently have, and something I can 'grow into' as my playing develops. Very excited!

Welcome aboard Bristol. There are some really great 300's out there. I know my Taylors(started with 314ce) motivate me to always want to improve to do them justice, but they make me smile every time I open the case too. Looking forward to a NGD post with pics!

Thank you Dave & Shayne. Very exciting indeed!

I'm very fortunate to be able to get such a great instrument so early on in my playing, and it'll be a lifetime guitar that's for sure! I can't go a day now without picking up my guitar, but having something of that quality will only inspire me to play and work even harder than I do now to improve.
