NGD K16ce LTD
« on: January 01, 2017, 08:13:55 PM »
I happened to come across a guitar shop with a new K16ce LTD that had been there for quite a while. I almost jokingly asked if they wanted to trade evenly for my 25th Anniversary 814-BCE, and they said yes. So I shipped my guitar off and three days later I had the K16ce. So far I really like it. It's got a strong midrange with nice trebles, and the bass surprised me. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was with the koa. Maybe I can keep it around long enough to enjoy the "bloom" that everybody is so crazy about with koa.

Pardon my poor photography.

I saw that, so I revised my post. You must have quoted me before I revised it. I thought I remembered seeing your guitar and I went back to look. Glad you did a NGD post on it for us to comment on it.

Congratulations.  Nice top on that one, adds a little more color to match the back and sides.

I have been told that the longer "bloom" time is worth it.  Hang in there.

Congrats Warsmoke!  That guitar looks amazing!  The sunburst is a classy touch and the Gotohs really add another dimension of elegance!  Enjoy the process as it opens up!  I bet it sounds amazing already!  8)

I'm really glad you like it! As you know, I have been really happy with mine, too. I thought there was really a lot of extra value packed into these, as in most Taylor limited editions. Enjoy it.

Yikes that is gorgeous!!!

First, cedar is superb ...love it and miss mine tremendously!  That yours is paired with koa is unique, and a tonal combo I've never heard before.
Second, that koa is drop-dead gorgeous!  I love the fact that your koa is not flamed but has beautiful figuring ...and the edge burst enhances that!  Really nice acquisition there, congrats!!!

This is my first cedar guitar. I was a little concerned about it not having as much headroom as spruce, but I haven't had any issue so far even though I tend to get a heavy hand sometimes. Well-pleased so far.

That's an extraordinary guitar!  We had the only K14 in the Western World until a couple weeks ago, and I LOVE the way that cedar works with koa.   Suggestion on how to get it to open up more: BEAT IT LIKE IT OWES YOU MONEY!  Seriously, everyone babies pretty guitars, but the way to get them to open up is to get them to vibrate a lot.  It's either that or a ToneRite, and I'm not convinced that the latter will do the same job.
