Taylor Mini-e Bass
« on: August 29, 2017, 07:42:52 PM »
I found only a few comments on the new -e mini bass. I've read tons of reviews and watched all the YouTube videos on the subject and it sounds like most think it's great. I'm far from a good bass player, but there are times when a simple bass pattern adds a lot to my in-home recordings and even in a group sing along. So, i'm very close to pulling the trigger on one of them. Have any of you given one a try? I'd like to hear what you think.  Thanks.

My husband just bought one. He started bass a couple years ago. His main bass is a Fender American Standard Jazz Bass. However, he had an acoustic bass for travel and practice (sometimes). It was large and had a longer scale length. It wasn't very loud unplugged. When we would practice together, I could hardly hear him. So, he gave the new GSM e-bass a try. Compared to his other acoustic bass, it has a better tone, intonation, and volume. He says it's far more comfortable and the much smaller size makes it much easier to travel with. I can hear him now when we practice together. Plugged in, it sounds real nice. I have even messed around a bit with it and it is fun! He still loves his electric bass, but the GSM works well for the applications he bought it for.

I played one of these at my local GC, fun to play and I would use it for the same purpose as ya. Just don't have the scratch and need some other things right now.

Just a heads up, Guild is releasing a mini bass of their own. Beautiful looking instrument. Be sure to check that out in comparison.

I have decided to buy one. I went to the GC in Memphis last week but the out-the-door price was high. I figured I could find one at Sweetwater and get it tax free. I called Sweetwater tonight and sure enough, they have them and their price out the door is much cheaper than GC. So, tomorrow after I verify money in my "Slush-fund", I'm calling to order the guitar. I never bought a guitar sight unseen, but I feel every Taylor should be perfect and if not they have a great warranty. Sweetwater warrantees the guitar for a full two years as well.

I have a Taylor 214CE DLX for sale with case only a few months old and as new if anyone is interested.

I'll be interested in your experience. My main bass is a 5-string Carvin, one that compares favorably with those that cost 2-3 times as much, but I also have a 4-string Fender acoustic bass. Unless it's played through an amp, it's practically useless in my settings, but sounds okay when properly plugged in. I'm not playing much bass these days, so I'm not really in the market for another. (I have a guitar to sell in our Marketplace, too.) But you never know.

I auditioned a GS Mini Bass briefly yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised! It's a better, stronger acoustic bass than my Fender acoustic. In my opinion, of course.
