Pickguard on my DN3?
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:23:39 AM »
I'm considering putting a pickguard on my DN3, but no sure yet.  Seems like a good protection against

scratches.  At the same time, I kinda wanna keep it original in case I want to sell it later.  In any case,

I looked on ebay and found one that looks pretty cool:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/180861924326?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_4220wt_702[/quote]

What do you guys think?

Just out of curiosity, do you have something against Taylor pick guards? If you are looking to retain the value of your guitar, I wouldn't go with such an off-the-wall pick guard. If I saw a Taylor with that pick guard for sale, I wouldn't even consider buying it. You can get tortoise, black, and clear pick guards straight from Taylor and I can't imagine that they are as expensive as the one n the ebay ad.

I agree w/Pottski.
If you're considering the clear pickguard, get a blank off eBay and build your own. I use removable/reusable static cling clear on a couple of my guitars. The Taylor version, while adequate, is very thin.( the removable/reusable clear ones)

I'd add another vote for a standard Taylor pickguard, either in tortoise or, if you want to do something a little different (for a Taylor), black. The Taylor pickguard shape works really nicely with the shape of the guitar, bridge, and headstock. Completes the package to me, especially for a classic-looking dreadnought like the DN3.

I wanted to keep my GS8 as advertised by Taylor without the pick guard but I wanted to protect my guitar as well.  I opted for the Taylor "peel and stick" guard. Put it on while I play and take it off when I'm done.  It was the perfect solution I was looking for.   :D

Thanks for the input.  That pickguard was kind of pricey.  I guess I'll just go with the standard one, in case I want to sell it and upgrade.

I ordered my GA3-12 straight from Taylor with a tortoise shell pick guard installed, even though it comes standard without one.  As I understand it from reading Taylor literature, you can opt for a factory installed pick guard at no extra charge on all Taylor acoustics, if you so desire.

I ordered my BTO with a clear pick guard installed at the factory. I think you can get black too.
