My first buying motivation is the sound.  If the guitar speaks to you by the way of its sound then the looks are a bonus, that you will pay for.  The arm rest is a definite bonus feature I would love to have on any guitar.

Whenever I feel like owning a PS (which is never, but if I did), I just watch this video and remind myself that I would be ashamed to play the same guitar as this artist, haha:

Then you would also be ashamed to play a Larrivée C-10 as the artist apparently played that model for quite some time but then I'll never understand why the fact that any given artist uses this or that guitar suddenly makes it embarrassing for someone else to play. I Suppose if Sarah McLachlan ever makes a YouTube video using an Olson SJ it will ruin that model for you.

What I mean is, she's talking about how much money she saved in that music video and everything... And then omits the fact that her guitar was probably the most expensive part. I'd hate to raise awareness about poverty one day and be holding on to a PS whilst talking about it.

The Presentation Series guitar she was playing might have been borrowed, but I see your point which I missed when responding to your earlier post.

here is the magic:

Bobby could probably make a cardboard box sound good, but to me thats one very nice sounding guitar.

I watched the video you linked... very nice PS and yes, quite a sound to her. I love the top and the b/s woods, and the armrest seems like a super cool thing to have. I don't mind the bling, but it does look a bit overwhelming around the seams between the top & sides and the sides & back... but I could live with it (although not my preference). The main thing that bothers me regarding the bling is the fretboard inlay... just way too much for my personal taste. As others have mentioned, if she sings to you like no other, you might just have to overcome your blingphobia. I have not owned a PS, and I probably won't since I'd rather go for a 915ce or a BTO with koa or flamed maple purfling instead of abalone (but certainly would have an armrest). Those Fall Limited Cocos at Wildwood (links in previous post) look amazing and have nice appointments without all the "distracting" bling... you really should look at those.

just can't do it. simply too much in all areas(abalone and $).

one day soon i may take a ride to Wilcutt in Lexington Ky, just a few hours away, and try out a couple different wood combos.

I nearly bought one but for the bling! I showed it to my lovely and she said it looked like a "girl's" guitar. That was not derogatory but she meant it was too pretty for me. I suggest a BTO if the bling bothers you. You can do a PS minus all the trim. I ended up with the 2012 spring limited 814ce coco bolo instead. All of that means nothing if you loved the guitar. I did too but could not live with the "smirks" I would have gotten for buying it. The trim is just something to get used to. The coco on the PS14ce I played was phenomenal. I went to a shop last week and played the 2012 PS14ce fall ltd with the sinker top - Wow! That guitar started the whole temptation all over. Take a look at that one if you can find one.
Happy anguishing!

I have a 1996 PS 10, the first year. I really like it, the Brazilian has a cool figuring and the Englemann top is the best I've ever seen. The first PS models do not have shell on the sides or back and the fingerboard is not distracting at all. I really enjoy playing it but would be careful about where I took it, just because it's so showy. I would not bring it to play with people I did not know first.
