Give my neck a rest
« on: December 17, 2012, 08:17:25 PM »
So, what is everyone using for a neck rest/support when you're changing strings etc.?

A pillow...

The ES-335 got some love the other day... the Taylors have been getting most of the attention lately.

That's a "neck pillow" my wife uses... for her neck, not the guitar.  Well, until I need it.  ;)

Best wishes,

Funny thing, I was wondering about one of those neck rest pillows.

This isn't the u-shaped version that you see in airport gift shops, but a round one.  It fits under the neck, near the nut, but still gives access to the tuning keys.  If you don't want to make a cradle, a tightly wrapped beach towel works, too (done that).

Best wishes,
Jim

I thought it was kinda unique. I figured I could use the can coozy idea and then use my wife's exercise mat as a no slip work surface.   ;)

I'm still using my old (circa 1996) Martin string-changing kit, which has a slip proof foam mat rolled up in a clear plastic tube. In one end of the tub is the neck rest (similar to the cozy - only hard plastic with a foam-guarded surface where the neck actually rests), and the other end has a cap that doubles as a place to hold your bridge pins after string removal. Very nice design- I've seen it used in repair shops in music stores.
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Here is what I use.  It has always worked well for me, I noticed that the price has gone up a bit in the last couple of years.
