Hi from Arizona
« on: August 22, 2013, 05:48:59 PM »
Been a Taylor owner for a little over a year now.

Played guitar a little in the early 80's. Took lessons for about 3 years but never could dedicate myself to practiceing. Had a string of of cheap used guitars, but around 1985 I bought a new Martin HD-28. About a year later I had a serious left hand injury and put the guitars away. Fast forward to 2006 and I discovered I could play the ukulele. Went nuts for them and bought a bunch. Around 25 of them around the house now. Sold the Martin to fund a couple of really nice ones.
Got interested in playing Hawaiian slack Key guitar about 3 years ago. Chords are easier, but I still have trouble playing a full scale length guitar. Enter the GS-Mini.  Love it, love it, love it. Got the mahogany top one and in G taropatch tuning (DGDGBD) the thing sounds great.

Last fall I was in Hilo, Hawaii just in time for the Taylor Road Show at the local guitar store. Awesome event. I was blown away with the grand concert guitars. Exactly what I wanted. Figured I could handle the shorter scale length. Came home and after the new year I started looking. Found a NOS 2 year old 312ce. I keep it in taropatch tuning also, but a full step lower to F.

In the mini I put a K&K Sound Pure Mini pick-up and run that thru a Behringer ADI-21 preamp. Sounds even a little better than the Expression system on the 312.

Hi there!
I'll be coming over to Tucson in November-december. Have been looking for some guitar shops. Found Rainbow. Have been thinking of getting as GS mini while I'm there. 2 months. Any good ideas about where to look?

Rainbow is the best choice. Almost always have a mini or two in stock. Great acoustic room with the freedom to play anything in there. I'd budget an extra 60 bucks for a truly awesome set-up by the Taylor guru Josh R. over in their repair shop. He worked at El Cajon for several years before moving back to Tucson.

- Great. Thank you! And good to know about Josh R. It's not always easy to find somebody who is really good at these things.
