A question re tuner placement
« on: June 12, 2017, 08:06:19 AM »
I'm considering swapping the tuners on my Taylor GS Mini Koa for a set of Gotoh 510s. The actual process looks straightforward, including drilling pilots for the screws, I've no problem with any of it. However, imagine a line drawn through the guitar lengthwise, should a line through the centre of the tuner shaft and button intersect this at 90 degrees? Or is the final rotational siting of the tuner a matter of aesthetics and personal taste? Some instruments seem to have tuners at a slight angle.

I'd think this would be a fairly straightforward decision based on the Gotoh tuners. I replaced tuners twice and it was very evident how they were to be installed. Both of mine were at the 90 degrees you mentioned. When you say some tuner sit at an angle I'm trying to remember a guitar where that was the case. I'm sure there would be some that look like they're at a slight angle due to the headstock shape.

Thanks for replying. I'm sure the correct orientation will be obvious once the new tuners are mounted.
