Happy to report that I locked down the one I tried yesterday and put her on layaway, should be able to get her out of jail within a month or two :) .  Played her for a couple more hours in a sound room and she threw so much bass I couldn't believe it, all while maintaining her highs in perfect clarity.  Actually packed more bass wallop than my GS8 which I brought along to compare.  The best part was she sounded fantastic strummed, but when you pulled back to finger style the cedar top was so responsive with plenty of volume, and yet with this peaceful mellowness.  It was like she had a sort of emotion, dare I say even a sadness, at least on the finger style song I was playing, that was palpable.  I was blown away.  You can play a lot of guitars in a store, but it's amazing when one speaks to you.  That's when you know a purchase is in order.  May another guitar not speak to me again any time soon! HA!

All I can add is that my 812ce cedar/rosewood is just a beautiful sound to my ears and a lot like you described it.

You must be so happy with that guitar...almost eerie overtones!

I played a 514ce cedar top today at guitar store who didn't have the maple I was wanting to try.  It blew me away!  I absolutely loved it.  I have a GS8 as well as an all hog martin 000-15sm and I was looking for the maple because it would provide a "brighter" alternative to the two fairly dark guitars I already have, but when I played the 514 cedar top, while it was still Taylor bright, it had a warmth that made it complete.  Sleeping on it tonight but have a feeling I'm going to have to go back tomorrow and lock her down!

The Spring LTDs should be coming out soon....maybe they'll do something special with cedar?!

That would be awesome if they did.  I never thought I would like cedar so much.  I've always been sitka guy, but that 514 just completely did me in!
