1986 Taylor serial number confusion - need help
« on: May 21, 2014, 12:06:09 PM »
I have a vintage Taylor acoustic that sure smells like cedar and looks to have a spruce top. It has a serial number of 4153 that would indicate a 1986. I thought I had a Taylor 410 dreadnaught from 1991 but when I called Taylor they told me it is likely a 1986 K20 with KOA sides, back and top although maybe an Englemann Spruce top. There is no paper inside the guitar. The Taylor guy said they don't have any more information on the guitar in their system. Im pretty darn sure this thing doesn't have a molecule of KOA in it. Anyone here able to enlighten me ( a difficult task, I know lol). Thanks a lot

Thanks. I got another answer from Taylor that seems spot on. The serial number has a dash in it. It's a very early 1991 410 Taylor. The first year the 410 was made and one of the very first produced that year. I was looking to sell it on eBay and wanted to get my facts straight. Its a Mahogany back and sides with Sitka Spruce top. Has rosewood fretboard and bridge. 2 years later in 1993 Taylor changed to ebony fretboard and bridge.
