Hello Taylor fans!
« on: February 21, 2016, 06:58:37 PM »
Hi everyone!  My name is Hoss.  I'm 45 and just started taking guitar lessons back in June of 2015.  Boy I wish I started when I was younger.  My wife convinced me to invest in a higher end guitar so I can stay motivated to keep learning.  I tried teaching myself a few years back with one of the infomercial "Esteban" guitars.  I quickly lost interested after a a couple weeks.
I got the urge to take actual lessons so I did some research and settled on Taylor.  We didn't go too expensive so I bought a 2015 214ce dlx SB.  Boy was I hooked!  I am taking lessons from a local teacher here in town and am having so much fun.  I played saxophone when I was in school so I have some musical experience reading music, etc.  I now own three guitars.  I bought a Baby Taylor to practice on my business trips and just purchased a 254ce dlx- the new 2 series 12-string.  I'm at the airport typing this out and I'll be home in a few hours to play it for the first time.  I took a chance buying it online but I couldn't pass up the deal on Amazon for $xx plus free shipping.
I'll let you all know how it plays in a few days since it's so brand new.

Welcome, Hoss!  Cool user name.  And it is never too late to start learning since you are still on the right side of the turf.

Enjoy the journey.  As for getting a good guitar, you did just fine.  Lots of love for the 200's here, especially the 214 DLX's.  You'll eventually forget the purchase cost, but you will always enjoy and be inspired by a better instrument every single time that you play it.  I once heard, "buy nice or buy twice".  And congrats on finding a teacher too - it is way harder to unlearn bad habits than to establish good ones in the first place.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Welcome Hoss! The 200 series guitars are great choices.....wish I had something like that to start learning with. Nice thing is, they are lifelong guitars. Your wife is a very wise woman! BTW, I was also a saxophone player throughout school.

Welcome to the forum Hoss, and a great Taylor you chose.  Yet another sax player here - mostly for fun (and annoying the neighbours) nowadays, but i used to play in a marching band when I was in the Navy...

Well, it looks like we have the sax section covered.  ;)

I watched The Blues Brothers (again) a few nights ago.  Are we "putting the band back together"?
