Awesome SF, great little guitars, mine is now out for my wife to use. She is just starting to learn but likes the look and feel of the mini Koa. Es2 is a nice bonus too.
I am sure you and your wife will enjoy it.

Very very nice.  I'm among the many who've been heaping praise on the Mini lately, so there's not much else to say other than "great minds think alike" (mine's also Koa).

Sorry for asking a question that I should probably know already, but what is the white graining below the sound-hole? Is that "sap-wood" that I've read a few times on here? It certainly makes yours stand out from the crowd...

Hi,  I don't mean to hijack your post, but I have a question. I plan on buying a mini as soon as the 2016s arrive at my dealer so this question is important.  Why did you buy the Koa?  My problem is that I love both the mahogany and the Koa.  I really haven't been able to hear too much difference in the sound (youtube demos) so why the Koa? Was it purely based on looks or sound? I want the warmest, prettiest one I can find. LOL.

I bought mine late last year - I was undecided between the Hog and the Koa. But since it was primarily for daughter #2, she had the final word and chose the Koa "because it looks way cooler than the other one", and I tend to agree.

Tone wise, they both have the trademark massive sound, but I also think the Koa sounds better.  It has the same fat sound of the hog-topped version, but it rings brighter, particularly on the tops, making it a little more balanced overall.  But as ever, tone is a subjective thing and you should try to A/B compare them if you can, and decide for yourself.

Thanks for your input/ I do plan on A/B them as soon as I can. My dealer sold all their models.
The Koa is beautiful. I'm going to have to do a blind test (have someone else play it first) so I'm not swayed by looks.

Like you I listened to all of the YouTube vids and couldn't really hear much of a difference. I did get to try them in Amsterdam and decided I liked the looks of the Koa better especially the lack of pick guard, but the sound of the hog to me had the edge in terms of warmth. So having no decided I wanted the "e" version, the only one available in the whole of my country was the koa so that's what I got and it is fine but I can't help feeling I should have had a hog imported. So, I guess the message that everyone gives is correct, only you can decide bust a gut to get to give them a hands on try side by side.
Cheers Steve.
