Scratch on GS Mini headstock
« on: February 10, 2017, 04:19:48 AM »
Hi there. This is my first post here. I've enjoyed reading a lot of the posts here so far and you all seem very helpful. Now to the reason for this post:

I was swapping out the tuners on my GS Mini for the Taylor's Standard Tuners and in the process of tightening one of the bushings, the tool I was using (an adjustable wrench, NOT a 10mm nut driver, which I should've been using) slipped and left a little bit of a scratch on the upper part of the headstock just under the Taylor logo. You can't see it dead on, but you can definitely see it in the light, so I know it's barely on the surface. Is there anything I can do/use to buff it out a little bit to make it less noticeable? I've researched what I can use, but I'm a little unclear what would be safe on the Lexan material. Thanks in advance! :)

Update: I picked up some Nu Finish Scratch Doctor and applied it to a small scratch. I used medium pressure and was pleased with how much it lessened the scratch. I applied it to the biggest one and buffed it out no problem. I think the two smaller are just a little bit deeper, so it might take a couple more applications.

It's been demonstrated to me how well that kind of product works on the gloss finishes and lightly-scuffed pick guards, but I wasn't sure how it would work on the GS Mini's peghead overlay to confidently suggest it to you last night.  Good to hear you've got it sorted out!  Sadly, we all eventually learn that the feeling when we get the almost unavoidable scratch/ding on our beloved guitars/vehicles/etc.
