Finally got my Taylor's set up the way I like.
« on: July 29, 2017, 09:46:12 AM »
I have a  80's Ovation 1768 Elite what was set up by Bill Callaham of Callaham Guitars back in the 80's, and have been spoiled by the action and playability of it since.

Only a slight relief in the neck, and the high E at the 12th fret at .060, low E at the 12th fret .080.

I now have both my 814ce Dlx and GS Mini KOA set the same.

The 814 had a huge relief set, so made a TR adjustment.  It worked out to be having the neck completely level with the strings off, then strung to pitch was perfect.  The High E was .080, and the low was .110 high from the dealer.  I purchased a new saddle from Taylor and lowered it.

The GS Mini was dead on for the relief.  The High E was .080, and the Low E was .100.

They only reason I had not done this yet was a.Time, and b. scared to screw up the ES2 adjustment, but it was simple if you follow Taylor's instructions on YouTube.

I am loving these SO MUCH more now  :)

Kudos to you for doing it yourself!  A good guitar setup makes a big difference on any fine guitar, and it's transformational on anything less.

One of the (many) attributes of Taylor acoustics is that they are easy to setup by the owner.  This is not true for many other guitars that would clearly benefit from a proper setup, but often need the hands of a skilled tech.  Not Taylor.  Their attention to tight build tolerances and manufacturing consistency has made adjustments so user-friendly that it has, in fact, revolutionized acoustic guitars. ...something we all can enjoy!
So enjoy yours in good health!
