GS Mini Bridge Pins
« on: April 29, 2018, 11:51:25 AM »
Hello folks,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I recently purchased a GS Mini Mahogany which is my second Taylor, my first is a 2006 110e. I recently bought the ebony bridge pins from the Taylor website and, like some other posters on here, noticed that they did not fit quite as well as the plastic bridge pins, especially the low E string. It seemed to be that the groove in the bridge pin was not long enough to accommodate the thick E string. How can I modify the bridge pin so that it will sit correctly?

I also noticed that some of them were polished better than others. Do you guys know how I can polish my bridge pins so that they are all uniform?

Attached is a picture of my Mini. Thanks for your responses.

I fitted Taylor bridge pins with the abalone inlay to my Koa model. They have different dimensions to the plastic ones but fitted without any problems. You can see the measurements I took in post #3 here http://www.unofficialtaylorguitarforum.com/index.php?topic=8734.msg103680#msg103680

Thank you for your reply. If my pin is not quite flush, would you advise sanding the shaft slightly?

If you mean that your pins aren't seating as deeply as the plastic ones then I'd sand them, going a little at a time. Also I'd mark the new pins so they are used in the same holes to allow for any variation. Mind you I'm certainly no luthier, just handy and using common sense!
