GA fit in GC case?
« on: September 04, 2018, 10:43:36 PM »
A person on a Taylor Facebook page just bought a new 314ce and they are having a difficult time putting the guitar in its case. Is the GC case the same as the GA? If the cases are different, and the dimensions between the Ga and GC guitars being very close, it may be possible to squeeze a GA into a GC case. Ultimately,if the can't master putting the guitar in its case they need to g o back to the  store and get some help. Or contact Taylor...

The cases are different sizes, but you can probably squeeze a GA into a GC case with some difficulty.  There is an inch or so of padding that will yield to the larger GA body.  I actually had a similar problem one time -- a GS 12-string squeezed into a GA case.  The Taylor dealer was very apologetic and immediately swapped out the GA case for the correct GS case.  If it's a question of being a long distance from the dealer, they should ship the correct case to the buyer, and supply him with a return shipping label for the incorrect case.  That's what my dealer did for me.

Usually, the case will have a tag inside the storage bin (i.e., the box that supports the neck when the guitar is inside the case) that will indicate the intended guitar for the case:  "GC," or "GA," or "GS," etc.  That will probably be the simplest way to confirm whether the case is the wrong size.

My 414ce is a very snug fit into it’s case, fwiw. I never tried putting a GA in a GC case but they don’t look like it would be easy.
Have your friend take Tim’s advice, the case is to protect it, not damage it trying to get it in!

Ok, I had to experiment with this myself.
I tried fitting my K24ce (GA) into my 512ce (GC) case. There's is absolutely no way it would fit, without doing damage to the guitar. And, the GC case is not as deep, so it probably wouldn't even close.
Both cases had the "GA" and "GC" tags inside the accessories compartment.
I have had more than one new instrument where the new case was very snug, but it improved as the padding formed to the instrument, with time.

I had so much stuff in my case I never noticed the case tag. I'll post on the page about it.

My 2007 514ce still has a snug fit in the case.  I can not imagine squeezing a full inch of guitar body into the case, plus the 1/4" of extra height.  Boy, I had to undo my belt just thinking about it.
