Taylor Swift and a fancy Taylor guitar on SNL (2009)
« on: August 12, 2019, 01:27:52 PM »
This is probably old news to most of you, but this youTube link recently popped up for me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2twcSFYlt0

It's both humorous (Taylor Swift on SNL, singing her opening monologue), and she picks up a pretty gorgeous Koa Taylor to play while singing. It took me a bit to notice the large "Taylor" inlay on the fingerboard (yeah, I'm slow).  Isn't that a pretty guitar?

Anyone know what is in the soundhole? I've seen that sort of thing before but I don't know what it is (some sort of pickup or resonator?).

(and ... a net search shows lots of pictures of her with the guitar...)

taylor is an awesome performer. that soundhole cover is from the lute company, and is used to reduce feedback by the electronics

she used to play taylors but plays gibson’s live now

That was a funny monologue and a beautiful (custom I'm sure) glossy Koa-top Taylor. Hadn't seen that video before. Thanks for posting.

FYI Taylor Swift has a beautiful summer home here in Southern RI on the ocean with her own private beach. The building is 11,000 square feet!
It's about 20 miles from my house. Her property tax bill is around 1,000% higher than mine though. :)

I attached a photo of her Rhode Island house. It's the big one in the middle.

I know that guitar! It's a one off (fretboard had the standard inlay modified) master grade koa PS14. Taylor guitars made that for her after she returned a Brazilian rosewood PS14 for fears of backlash for owning an endangered wood guitar(even though it was documented and legal wood). I love that soundhole cover, that wasn't us.

interesting. crazy the things stats have to worry about. i love cocobolo and don’t even blink an eye bc i know taylor handles the ethical side for me - and the money that goes to the guitar pays for ethical sourcing and USA manufacturing, which i’m completely on board with

thx for sharing! her glitter taylor is pretty unique too :)

On a related note, I saw this guitar when visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.  It is a GS-6 with crystals attached to the top.

At a local store, I've played a custom BRW 914 that she bought.  Then she realized that touring in Europe with a Brazilian rosewood guitar would be problematic, so she ordered the same thing in EIR.  The store owner grabbed it from the factory at a NAMM show.  It carries a substantial price tag as you can imagine, and it's been in the store for at least two years, maybe longer.  Nice guitar, but well beyond my pay grade.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby
