I'm not at all surprised by the popularity of the 600 series among true Taylor fans. I'm partial to my 1995 612c Cotten. Of course, my 2000 914c gets played "out" more.

Almost forgot...I also have an R. Taylor Style 1 redwood over walnut.  That one is on the block, though...

In addition to the 214, I had to go with "other" on my 414 L7.  I prefer to refer to it as the poorman's 814 since it has the sitka/RW combination.

Wow!  The 600 and 800 series are still running neck and neck.  I believe as more people show up and get invovled in this thread, we will see a greater number of "all" guitars being noted.

Kind of keeping this thread alive to see more documentation of Taylors....

With this many votes, I see it VERY VERY odd that the 600 series is owned by so many. I am VERY VERY confused with the results.

This could mean that a lot of people have a maple guitar as a second or alternative while their primary guitar is a RW or a Mahog.

I went to a Taylor Roadshow this year with the intention of trying a 614; there were none. I tried all the guitars they had and there was one that really felt right so I bought that one.

I came home with my beautiful GA-Ke.

for me, it was case of Taylor sounding, playing, feeling & looking completely
unlike what my preconceived notion was of a 'typical' acoustic guitar,
not to mention their build process, finish & unparalleled customer service (imho)

this is where it all started for me - a 2002 614ce, special ordered in transparent blue

i knew nothing about maple, but this one came with a quilted 2 pc back without my requesting it

i also like the fact that there was no centerstrip (black or white) purfling in the center of the back

it took a little over a month to receive it (04.04-02), so a week after ordering this followed me home

01 314ce - Fall Limiteds were nearly 6 months out, which i knew nothing about & sapele, to me,
had the tone closest to 600, to my ear at that time (kind of 'mahogany with a touch of maple')

the Fall LTDs were still a good 6 months out & i knew nothing about them (02 300s were maple) -
if my interest in acoustic guitar began 6 months later, i probably would have had one (a 02 314ceLTD)

these have gone on to new homes, but there has been, & still are, a good number of maples in 'the stable' ;)

the third Taylor i picked up was this one - a 99 (or 00, i really can't remember) 514ce

rosewood didn't come along until quite a while later (for me) - 02 414ceLTD export proto, a 00 714ce & a 00 914c -
a 00 LOTF 314kce, 00 414mace (maple), 02 w14ce (walnut), 02 514ce engelmann & 00 k14c (cedar) were before them

for me, maple doesn't play '2nd fiddle' - i like the fact that what you put into it is what you get,
very quick response, clean, relatively 'uncolored' without an excess of complexity or overtones

i imagine that there are others here that may feel the same way & many more that do not, which is great -
it's all good ... i enjoy ovangkol, mahogany, rosewood, koa & ziricote, grand concerts & dreadnoughts too :D

Some years back I owned examples from every series but today I am down to a 714ce, a custom 12-Fret, a GS Mini, a couple of older Baby T's and I have an R. Taylor in the works.

I own a 2011 912c with an engelmann top. She has just been to the guitar doctor after I managed to ding the top pretty badly. The repair wasn't very successful, and left a pretty visible triangle with 8mm sides. However, it is sealed and safe, and it is just a cosmetic issue.

I previously owned a 2006 814ce, a 2006 GSRS and a 2007 912c. They were all great guitars, but when they all left me, I new that the only one I would replace, was the 912c. The new one turned out to be even better, and even more beautiful, than the 2007, so I am an extremely happy Taylor owner :)

As far as numbered series, currently not many in the herd --

A 916ce from 2011 that is perfect in every way and sounds like no guitar I have owned before.  I swear they poured a little musical pixie dust in the body of this thing...
A 912ce custom (Cocobolo/Engelmann) from 2003.  1-7/8" neck, clarity and focus, and surprisingly woody tone when close mic'd.  Very cool guitar.
An 814c custom (Cocobolo/Sitka) from 2002 -- Taylorstock.  Got it with a V neck on a whim, and have grown to really appreciate the comfort of that style neck.  It's also my first grab recording guitar...

Then there's the others...:

A K65ce from 2006 (It just makes you giggle every time you play it);
A GS custom from 2008 (Cocobolo/Englemann) that sounds amazing and completely different from the 916ce, allowing them to live together in harmony;
A GT-6 Baritone from 2010 that quickly fit into my summertime show repertoire;
A T5-S1 Maple top in Cherryburst from 2005 that is, bar none, one of my favorite and most relied upon performance guitars.
A T5-12 S1 Maple top in Tobaccoburst from 2007 that I just picked this year when I wanted to do more 12 string songs but didn't want to subject the K65ce to excessive wear...;
A GS mini from 2011 because everybody needs a friend to travel with...

In the last 11-12 years, I've owned examples of every series from 300's up to 900's and every body shape/style except T3 and 12 frets.  The ones that are in the herd now are ones that really made an impact on my ear or my playing, hence they stuck around.  Life is very good...

But I'm sure you get to spend a little quality time with the awesome BTO's that you are always ordering!  That has to make up for your heard reduction.
