BT1 or BT2
« on: February 22, 2020, 09:55:36 AM »
I’m looking to buy a small travel guitar (smaller than a GS Mini).  Which of the subjects do do prefer and why?

Thanks

A few years back, my sister wanted to get a Baby Taylor for taking to festivals (for workshops) when she was in the process of learning. I went with her to Elderly and I played both for her (and me). There wasn't a huge difference in such a small body, but we both agreed that the BT2 hog had a little better tone, less bright. So, if you have already made the decision to purchase one of the two (and not considering other options), I would chose the BT2. If you are open to something of the same size and a little less expensive to boot, I'd look at the Martin LXK2. It sounds less thin.

Oops, sacrilege-bought a Martin LX1.  Played and sounded way better than the Baby Taylor.  A long time ago I had a BT2.  It was an excellent travel guitar until the bridge lifted and the top warped.  Sent it to Taylor and it came back with the original neck and a brand new body.  It did not have the same tone as the original and I sold it.  So.......  anyway.  The Martin will work well as a travel guitar.

;D I bought a LXK2, which sounds better than the BT.
I had a BT in the past too. I sold it when I got a GS mini (my first one  ;)). Then, I was at Elderly and played an LXK2. As a fingerpicker, it sounded much better than the BT. I didn't need another travel guitar or another guitar for that matter. But, it was just too fun to walk away from. So now that we've downsized our motor home, I have a second, optional travel guitar. I use the GS mini as my main one, but take the LXK2 on occasion, because it does well in the smaller motor home. Plus, these little guitars are fun to noodle around on at home, as a quick grab and play or when sitting at the computer working out a song. Glad you ended up getting what will work for you too. Have fun, that's what it's all about.
