GS Mini tuning machines
« on: May 28, 2020, 11:06:18 AM »
Hey Folks - I have a couple of questions about the GS Mini tuning machines:

-  The tuner knobs are certainly smaller than the full size Taylor tuning knobs, but will full size Taylor tuning machines fit with the mini?
-  What is the gear ratio on the stock GS mini tuners or the standard full size Taylor tuning machines?

I have seen some reports of people complaining about tuning instability of the GS mini - I haven't noticed that, but I have noticed that these seem to have a lower gear ratio as I will frequently overshoot the pitch I'm going for compared to the standard Taylor tuning machines.

Don't know the specific answer to your two questions, but I once had mini Gotohs installed on a Mini with fabulous results. That would be my direction if I were you.
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Thanks - Yes I had seen those mini Gotohs - I think the full size ones I have on my 324ce BE are the best tuners I've ever tried by far.  But I see these Mini Gotohs have the same gear ratio as the standard Taylor full size tuners (18:1 according to the Taylor store) and the Taylors are quite a bit less expensive.

I do not know the gear ratios, but full size Taylor tuners do fit the mini. I’ve done it. I currently have the full size tuners on with the mini buttons. I did this because I wanted Taylor branded tuners (the mini tuners do not say Taylor on the back), and because the full size tuner buttons seem a little large for my taste on the mini, and I think original mini buttons look better on the smaller mini headstock. Everything worked just fine, simple process.

The full size tuners and tuner buttons fit just fine.
