Nut replacement
« on: August 07, 2012, 10:37:53 AM »
hello all, this is my first post having just joined. I would appreciate any advice on the subject of replacing a faulty nut. I have a 2007 412 CE and need to replace the damaged nut. I have ordered a Graph tech replacement which I understand is a standard Taylor fit. How easy is it to get the old one out without damage and will it need any sanding when putting the new one in. Or should I just leave it to a professional !!. I am keen to have a go myself. Thanks . Ian.

Check out this site, http://frets.com/FretsPages/Luthier/Technique/Setup/NewNut/newnut1.html

You can get lucky and the replacement will work great, or the strings slots might be too high and you'll need a luthier to adjust it. It's worth a try as long as you don't mark your neck getting the old nut out.

Hi Ian, it's great to have you here on the UTGF!   ;D  I'd take your guitar to the nearest guitar tech and let them do it...just my .02 cents.  ;)
