NGD: brand new 314ce and a couple of questions
« on: December 25, 2012, 12:03:39 AM »
Just received my first ever Taylor 314ce!!  The fit and finish appear flawless. The action is very low but no buzzing. The E A D strings sound like piano strings when plucked. Awesome!  I do have a couple of questions. Does Taylor ship them with a plastic covering on the pick guard?  And the case when set down on the floor wobbles.  Could this mean the case is warped or can I adjust one of the knobs?  Also, the case came inside the box without a plastic bag around it.  I guess I'm wondering if they sent me someone else's return.  But I can't find a single ding or pickmark so I don't care.  I do want to have the case adjusted.
Any recommendations on where to get a decent TRS to XLR cable. I prefer right angle into the guitar. Any preferences?  Pix tomorrow.  Merry Christmas!

Congrats on a great guitar and Merry Christmas!

I have a 314ce too (bought new about six months ago). I bought mine in a local store, so can't comment on the box/bag question.

I didn't notice my case wobbling, but mine is always on carpet. I don't know about adjusting the knobs.

I can tell you that mine did have a plastic cover on the pickguard.  :)

Hi MartinD, Congrats on your new Taylor!  I bet she sounds great!  I'm not sure about the case wobbling...(you might want to let the case warm up a smidgen if it has been stored in a cold truck...not sure if the really cold could have an effect on it.)   I bought a new GS8 last year, and from what I can remember.....my guitar case didn't come in a plastic bag either...and it shipped right from the Taylor factory.  You're good my friend.  Yes the pick guard will have a super thin plastic film on it that you can peel off when ready.  :D

Hope your happy with the 314 :) I got one for Xmas 2 yrs ago after doing extensive research I came to conclude that the 314 was in a good price range  and an all around real good guitar to suite my playing ability which is mostly rhymem ,as I am a vocalist way more then a hot shot guitar player. watching video after video on how the expression system works I was sold and am totally happy with it as i" m sure you will be. now that I'm here I might as well tell you what I got yesterday for Xmas.  An iiPad . I went to a jam in Calgary and seen this guy with an iPad on stage and asked what the heck he was doing with that thing so he showed me. you get this program called " on song"This thing is unreal man no more sheet music with pages every where in front of you on a stand.Down load a song like lets say " Thunder Rolls " you put it in the iPad and if it comes up in the gear of " C" there's a slider to set the chords where ever you want so just take that wonderful little slider and slide to let' say "D" and there she is .You can set it to scroll at any speed you want as you sing or even use a foot pedal to scroll. Then you set the sets as you want and when you want to go to the next song just slap the screen to one side and there she is ---unreal this thing . It has a capo slider and the whole shootaroo. I was up at 5 playing with this wonder little gizmo. This on song thing  is only for iPad"s and you can"t put it in a computer.

congrats on the 314ce, martin :)

i don't recall the pickguards having a plastic covering, other than a small semi-circle
static 'decal' that read something like 'this instrument is equipped with elixir strings' -
although they may have changed that, i didn't notice any on a few 12 fall 400FLTDs

i've seen martins & breedloves with a plastic bag around the case, but haven't seen it on a Taylor

does the case wobble with the handle facing up, the lid facing up or when
the case is straight up & down (resting on the tailblock with the headstock up) -
unless the feet have screws running through them (my guess is that they're riveted) i'm thinking
that making sure that each of them is seated securely is about all that can be done, unless one or
more of them is dented, bent or crushed - is this a black case with black lining & chrome hardware ?
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

After reading this, I'm now thinking that maybe all mine had on it was the little semi-circle Elixir Strings plastic, rather than a full-on plastic pickguard cover.

Of the 9 Taylors I have bought new, none of them came with the guitar case wrapped in plastic.
