In my opinion, the 700's are some of the best cosmetically appointed guitars that Taylor, or anyone else, for that matter, have ever produced.

and having recently picked up a 716 in the vintage burst-to my ears-one of the best sounding guitars taylor has offered. i have the englemann top, its the most balanced and has a touch of shimmer that comes with a cedar top, but can take a pick and not be overdriven easily. very clear, very deep, very nice.
and the burst , fretboard appointments and binding all blend in and look way better in person than the pictures present.

my father-in-law loved my goodall TR000 in sitka/EIR. he just about had a heart attack when i sold it. after buying the 716 he told me it was hands down the finest playing/sounding guitar he had ever played.

i love what taylor is doing and adding...............................................now, its time for the slope shoulder Bob!  with the vintage burst and 7 series rosette. sitka/EIR and adi/Mahogany.

May I suggest this would be a good post topic? That way people will see it instead of it being buried under dozens of responses to a somewhat different subject. I'll start thinking of my answer.

I was a bit under the weather today, so I didn't get over there. From what I was told they were getting in the 518.

sorry to hear that -
hope you're gettin' out from under the weather & feelin' better soon :-\

sitka top & sitka bracing on that one -
for the longest time, the standard tops on most mahogany models were
either engelmann or cedar (save for the DN-5 from 07-11 & the LKSMs)

nothing wrong with that, but i just happen to like sitka's 'snap' on a 'hog 8)

this oughta be good :)

Hmm...sitka bracing? Is that the traditional CV bracing or something new?

Nomad, hope you're feeling better today! :D

I gave a call into my local dealer and they indicated that they won't be getting them in for a couple weeks maybe even mid February.  I suppose they use the same delivery service I use to get W&S (ox driven freight wagons)which still is not here. :o

I love the GS - IMO, it's the perfect performance guitar.  You can bang the crap out of it with the hardest and heaviest pick you have and it just laughs at you as it produces beautiful and boisterous music.  However, it is balanced enough to do the fingerstyle thing just fine.  My favorite design.

I just don't know about the GO.  I don't have a serious opinion because I haven't played one.  However, I've owned jumbos and have found that unless it's a 12 string, things get lost in a jumbo.  Not your wife & kids, mind you, but musical subtleties sometimes do.  I'm curious to see how the gang in El Cajon handles that aspect of the big bodied boom box...

on the 5, the bracing material is sitka, while adirondack is on the 6 & 9 -
the bracing pattern is described as hybrid scalloped parabolic (the back bracing is unique also) &
i believe the side bracing would be made of same wood as the back & sides ('hog, maple or eirw)

runs over to check out nomad's test drive :)

I have a serious opinion, because I have played one. I've played all three, in fact.

These guitars are outstanding. Nothing gets lost.

To avoid any confusion, all Taylor bracing is made from spruce wood. In most cases, it is sitka spruce and in fewer cases, the wood used is the more expensive Adirondack spruce.

the top bracing on the first edition 518e is sitka & adirondack on the 618e & 918e -
if the side bracing material is consistent with R Taylor & builder's reserve models
then that will match the back & sides (mahogany 5, maple 6 & rosewood 9) ...
so, not all  bracing is spruce

Innovation from Taylor is always exciting, but my faith is partially restored by the GO's release as a non-cutaway. I know that Taylor's website indicates that it's available without the ES system, but still would like confirmation on that....
