Most if not all of us have guitar humidifiers for the
body of the guitar that somehow fit into the sound hole. What do we do about the
headstock of the guitar? That too needs to be properly humidified as well...right?
I wanted a very small, but capable humidifier for the headstock compartment as well.
Here's how I made mine. The cost is easily under $4 dollars. You'll need to buy a Travel Q-tips package, and a package of just ordinary sponges.
Next take one of the sponges and cut it in half (cut it in half shortways) Then this is the hard part...take one of the halves and then cut it in half again...but neither long or short ways...cut it in half as if you were trying to make the sponge thinner. This allows it to easily fit into the Q tips travel case with out having to be forced into the case...you'll want enough room for the half sponge to move around freely...to allow airflow and humidity to escape the case.
Next take your Q Tips travel case and drill three or so holes in it like so.
Below is the finished product! The little Q tips case easily fits into the headstock area of your guitar case!
PS...if your sponge ever starts to smell funky, take it out...rinse it thoroughly with dish soap...wash it completely out, and then MICROWAVE it for about 2 minutes thereabouts. The microwave will literally make sure that no germs/mold etc will survive. Put back into your travel case and enjoy!
Hope this helps! Remember, it's important that your WHOLE guitar remains properly humidified!
