First-time Taylor owner
« on: July 21, 2013, 04:32:13 PM »
Mike from north-of-boston.
Wife is still mad at me for how much I spent on my 310ce, but I got a great deal at Guitar Center and had a gift card from them too, so could not resist.

Still getting used to medium strings after using extra lights on my other acoustics all my life.   I've tried Elixers before and was not terribly impressed with them, and these ones seem to be losing their "shine" after just a few weeks.  Busted the G string Saturday night just as I was starting a song with a capo on the 3rd fret. >:(   Going to try Martin Lifespans this go-round, liked them on my other acoustics.

My music:

My guitars:
1973 Epiphone 6 string acoustic
2011 Fender CD140sce 6 string acoustic-electric
Ibanez 12 string acoustic electric
1972 Fender Telecaster
Epiphone Dot Studio
Epiphone LP Jr.
Chinese Strata-clone

Squier J-bass
Washburn mandolin
Luna 'Tatoo' ukulele
antique 8-string banjolin

welcome in MikeB. you..uhh...ehem...uhh... wouldn't happen to have some pics of your baby would you? ( the guitar that is, not the wife)
if you like using lights, go ahead and give 'em a try. i used to use lights on my k10ce and they sounded fine. i use them on my 616 also....  nothing really bad happened... well gnomes started jumping out from under my 'fridge and i lost my fetish for wearing women's underwear, probably just a coincidence......

Actually, I did sell a bunch of gear and other stuff to pay for the Taylor!  The Beatles tribute band I was in broke up in Jamuar and I sold an amp, my in-ear monitor system and an old Kawai synth.

Isn't that a Taylor 12 string in the group photo?

No, that's an Ibanez.  Picked it up for $XXX, then paid $XX to Daddy's Junky Music (RIP) to fix the preamp and set it up - and got a brand new hard padded gig bag for it because they lost the old one!

Thanks

Guess this would be an okay place to mention that I'm searching for another solo guitarist or duo/trio looking to do a mostly-acoustic act in the northeastern Massachusetts/southern New Hampshire area (Merrimack Valley).  Been doing a lot of open mics to network and keep my chops going.  Don't see a lot of Taylor players typically, but did see one guy (also named Mike) last week and the week before a guy with an older Taylor without a pickup system.

Hi MikeB. Welcome to the UTGF. Looks like you already have plenty of experience explaining NGD's to your wife. Just saying... :) Congrats on the new 310ce. Enjoy.

Sorry, didn't realize prices paid are a 'no no' here!  (strange rule!)

From the pictures - is this standard sapelle back & sides?
