New Taylor owner, thanks Mods for the forum
« on: February 19, 2014, 09:38:53 AM »
Hi there, i recently acquired a 2011 Spring Ltd all Mahogany cutaway dreadnought. I originally was going to the shop for a Martin, i sat down like you do and play rather shyly while everyone else in the shop is lighting the place up with tunes, so i sat strumming different guitars as low as i possibly could and not feeling it...then the sales guy said have you tried a taylor, id never played one before, so i said No, and he produced this beautiful reddish guitar, so i set the Martins Back and picked up the taylor, it felt right, before i even hit a note it just felt right, then i strummed a little and she sang the reverb as i held it while playing sunk into my chest and i stopped and knew i had found my guitar.

The fret buzzed esp on the higher octaves so i brought her into a local Luthier, the wood was dried out, and its going to be with him for a few weeks while he gets the wood back to the correct height. it has struck me that i could return it and go get me a guitar without the fret issue in fact it would be easier, but if i did that then id be bringing the guitar back to sit in the store and dry out even more and for the life of me i couldnt bring myself to do that to the guitar, i know it sounds daft but someone needs to give this guitar some love and turning my back on it seemed like going to a dog shelter and passing by the happy pup thats got a cough. So thats my story on my Taylor, i cant wait to get her back and start playing.

Im originally from Northern Ireland, but now living and occasionally breathing in Columbus Ohio, I'm 42..hence the occasional breathing part, hello to all the fellow Taylor owners out there and thank you Mods for making this forum and approving me to join.

Cheers guys

Congrats on your beautiful new guitar.  Are you the original owner?  If so, I would discuss with Taylor the condition of the guitar at the store....... Ultimately will be useful for everyone to know.

Thanks for the reply, no this was a used Guitar I saw at guitar center, They seemed to be having a lot of difficulty with getting the humidity right in the store a lot of the guitars they had were dry or cracked. It's a shame too cause they had some beautiful old guitars there that the guy said had cracked overnight. It seems at least for Ohio the humidity levels are bad this winter and I'd strongly advise everyone to purchase a humidity pack to sage guard their guitars this winter. It's part of the reason I couldn't return the guitar to the store, if it sat there for any length of time the guitar would have started to cracked due to the humidity conditions of the store. So I refuse to take the simple route and return it for my money back so I can give this guitar the help she needs. What is the best humidity pack to purchase? I heard a lot of good things about oasis Humidifiers..any suggest?

I called Taylor and 26 of these were made for the spring Ltd series for 2011..I'm surprised that it's that limited to be honest I thought their runs were a lot larger.

I use humidipacks from Planet Waves;  forum posters have suggested various ways to "recharge" the humidipacks once they dry out, so they can be reused.  THey really work;  I haven't tried any other brands

Hi there ...

Im originally from Northern Ireland...

Hello, and welcome -- both to the forum and to the States!  As you might infer from my forum handle, I'm a Yank of Irish descent.  Kudos for rescuing that Spring Limited!

... What is the best humidity pack to purchase? I heard a lot of good things about oasis Humidifiers..any suggest?

Taylor recommends the Humidipaks; they're distributed in the U.S. by D'Addario and/or Planet Waves.  Most every shop (including the Guitar Center where you bought your Spring Limited) should stock them.  You'll initially want the starter kit, with the woven pouches to hold the packets.

The Humidipaks work pretty well at maintaining the humidity level -- if you're diligent about regularly monitoring them.  But depending on the interior humidity conditions (as you noted, very dry this winter due to everybody's heating systems working overtime to combat the Arctic temperatures) and how well the guitar case seals, Humidipaks will last between weeks and months.  There's been some recent discussion in this thread about rejuvenating Humidipaks to get some extra use out of them; you might want to read up on that.

Yup, funny you should ask that, I'm currently writing one now, I have the chords and rhythm laid out, just working on the lyrics now..hopefully in the next few weeks I'll have it finished. This is my first and perhaps last effort. .Been playing for 20 years and never tried to write a song before, thought I'd give it a go. Good to be in the forum and with like minded people who love their music and gear. thanks for making me feel at home here, I'm hoping to get to know everyone or as many as my small brain can contain lol

Never thought about Gaelic lyrics..might work..problem us Gaelic language isn't the prettiest language out there it sounds very russianesque. Enya and clannad can make it sound nice but it takes a really good voice to smooth over the rough dialect.
