I'm so addicted...
« on: March 21, 2014, 11:10:22 PM »
Hello fellow Taylor devotees...

I've been playing the same Fender DG-7 for 16 years. It was my first guitar and I put it through bloody heck. Been wanting a new "grownup" guitar for a while, but with 3 small children, haven't been able to make the time... until my youngest vomited INTO my guitar. I took this as the sign from the rock gods that this most certainly was the time to splurge.

Researched like crazy (did a lot of lurking here!), spoke to many talented guitarist-friends, played a hundred guitars over the span of about a month to find the right fit for me. Took no time to pick Taylor as my sound. Ultimately, I decided that it seemed like a GS body style was the way to go. Problem is, wasn't able to play one because most of the local stores only carry GAs and dreads in 300 series.

So, I went ahead and ordered a 316ce so that I could try out my theory. Thankfully, I loved it. That GS body style is perfect for my style of play and, to me, it sounds like a more expensive guitar. I'm now addicted to the process of falling in love with amazing Taylor guitars. I want an 814ce so bad it hurts. I want a GS Mini for the office. I need advice on how to hide these purchases from my wife!

I'm looking forward to learning from you guys! I have a long way to go before my playing ability warrants that 800 series, but in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy my new addiction!

Welcome. Have to admit, I had never heard of a kid throwing up in a guitar.....until now. You sure that wasn't planned, to get that 316ce? Congrats on your FIRST Taylor. There will be more ;).

Welcome to the forum awheelock.  There a lot of ways and reasons to need to buy a new guitar, yours is the most unusual that I have heard.  Congratulations on the new 316.

Welcome BathTimeStrummer-

You're certainly not alone here, and you are among fellow addicts (or recovering addicts, whatever that means!). I've owned dozens of guitars over the years, which drove my first wife nuts, while my current one-and-only aids and abets my addiction, albeit with some good sanity-checking. My best advise is to take it slowly, or you'll run though several guitars before understanding what you really want to keep around. It took many years, many guitar brands, many guitar shapes, and many tone woods to figure out what should be in my house, and I still need more!

We'll be happy to advise you, but do consider the source! Have fun...

Thanks for the love, peeps. I am happy to report that the wife likes the new guitar so much that she let me hang it on the wall in our bedroom! It is a work of art after all. Also took my almost four-year-old twin daughters to the music store and they love the GS Mini. They had a rosewood laminate in stock. It was nice. I have to have one for my office.

While I was in there, there was a college kid whose dad was surprising him with a W10e, I think. I can't remember if it had a cutaway--but, it was definitely a W10. I was mesmerized by the walnut.
