Well I was afraid this would happen...
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:25:26 PM »
I went to my first Road Show last night.  One of the guitars that was there (actually was in the dealer's inventory) was a 324ce-K FLTD.  I hadn't really paid this guitar much attention before for some reason. One of the Taylor guys was commenting on KOA and pointed out that this was an all solid KOA guitar for a lot less than a K24 for example (not that these two are the same - I don't mean to construe that). He never even played the 324.  But - during the "petting zoo" I checked out the 324 closely.  I liked the sound and like the earthy wood appearance of the matte finish.  Then I left....and kept thinking about the 324.

Bottom line is I'll be joining the Koa club when the UPS truck gets to my house Monday.  :D I didn't buy the guitar I looked at though.  It was pretty but I managed to find one online at Willcutt Guitar in Lexington, KY with even more attractive wood for about the same as the Road Show price. Either dealer would have had to ship the guitar as I was on a business trip when I got the opportunity to attend the Road Show.

Whew - two NGDs in a month....now I gotta rest - and play and play and play.  ;D ;D

The only problem will be deciding which of your two fantastic Taylors to play. Enjoy!

Ah, I'm sure someone around here warned you about those Taylors multiplying like rabbits!  Koa is particularly insidious:  it catches your eye first, then cements it with your ear...  Congratulations!

Congratulations Ron in Tennessee.  The Koa club seems to be growing rapidly.

Koa, koa, koa! Welcome to the club! Remember, it didn't really happen until there's photos.  ::)

Hey Ronmcc4, I have the 324CE-k FLTD also.  On Taylor's website it says the back is composed of 2 pieces. Mine is a three piece. What is yours?

Huh!  Small world!  I recently spent four years (2009-2013) in Lexington, KY working a job site there.  And now I'm going to be heading back for another year starting in a couple of weeks...

I only had one chance to visit Willcutt.  They've got an odd shop -- it looks like an old house that's been stuffed full of guitars.  But the folks there are very nice and helpful.

I was specifically there to look at (ironically, given the thread) an all-Koa T5 that he had; apparently it was one of only a handful made (15 seems to be the number that I remember being told).  It was a beautiful T5, but we couldn't get together on the price, so I passed on it.

I think it's really great that you already have a grand concert 512ce and now have added a grand auditorium.  And they're both such completely different guitars, I think you'll figure out for which songs you play that you'll prefer one over another.  It will be a fun process figuring that out!  Enjoy!
