Hello from MA
« on: January 03, 2017, 01:30:26 PM »
Hello all, I'm a casual player from MA. Not very fancy, just love playing. Been playing since around 13-14. I'm soon to be 36. I currently have my eye on one of the Taylor-224ce-K's. Love all the little extras and how great it looks. Still somewhat undecided between this one and a 314 which from my understanding is Mexican vs American but from what I've read Taylor just doesn't skimp on quality, so I think I'm leaning towards the 224 for it's eye catching appeal. Here's a link to it:

Welcome to the forum Jacob. Just so you know, whether you are considering a Tecate, Mexico Taylor or a El Cajon, CA Taylor, the quality is going to be the same. Get the one you want and don't worry about what facility it's made in.  ;)

Welcome Jacob! I just tried out the 224ce-K last week at the local guitar center and it is one sweet looking guitar! I have two Taylors, one from Mexico and from US and I can tell you they are both quality products.
2014 Taylor GS Mini Holden Village (engelmann/quilted maple)

2014 Taylor 326ce-K FLTD (koa/koa)

Welcome!

It is my understanding that the laminate Taylors are made in Tecate, and the solid wood models in El Cajon. Does anyone else know more about this?

It is cool tha Bob T. Lives in Jamal, in east San Diego sounty. Just about half way between the two factories! Quality is ALWAYS high with any Taylor.

Cheers

Paul :)

Welcome, Jacob!

... a 314 which from my understanding is Mexican vs American...

The 300-Series should be made in America.

... It is my understanding that the laminate Taylors are made in Tecate, and the solid wood models in El Cajon...

That's my understanding as well:  GS Mini, Baby Taylors, 100-Series, and 200-Series are Mexican-made, with the rest of the line being made in California.  The best way to tell the origin of a current-build Taylor is to decode the serial number; the first digit signifies the production facility (1 = El Cajon, 2 = Tecate).

Like Paul said:  the build quality of all Taylors is really outstanding.

I am pretty sure the first digit in the serial just indicates the series line.

All babies, 1, and 2 series are "layered" back and sides.  3 and up are solid.

Cheers

Anyone know why the Taylor 224ce-dlx-k is only available at Guitar Center and not even on Taylor's site? I've bought my last couple of (electric) guitars from Sweetwater and I'm now getting a decent little discount from them so would prefer to order from them since their customer service has always been top notch.

I don't know whether it's the case with the 224ce-DLX-K, but sometimes Taylor does exclusive runs with their dealers -- and only that dealer will carry that particular guitar run.  For example, in 2014 Taylor did an exclusive run of Custom 516e's that only Guitar Center carried.  One of our forum members is currently trying to sell his, and he includes some of the details about it in his listing.  My recollection is that Custom 516e never appeared on the Taylor web site either.

Ultimately, a call to Taylor Customer Service (800-943-6782) should give you the answers to any questions you might have about the 224ce-DLX-K, including what dealers will be carrying it.

That was way too simple of a solution to think of on my own!  ;D I ended up calling and they said the 224 will be on their website within the next couple of weeks as it will become part of their standard lineup. It should be available everywhere. Thanks again!
