Where can I get shims to do a neck reset on my GS Mini?
« on: January 29, 2017, 08:22:21 AM »
The action on my GS Mini is too high, and I want to do a neck reset; where can I get the shims?

OR: About how much would I expect to pay a music shop to do the reset?

Thank you,
m

I want to know the cost of that too. PM me if anybody lets you know. I was quoted about Aud 110 for a reset and I thought that was high given that its only supposed to be 15 minutes work.

I have personally never heard that Taylor makes these available to end users: it's a tech-item only, be it an indep. shop or a factory-authorized one.  I suppose you can call directly and ask, but I know of at least one instance where a guy was politely told it's NA.

And yes, it's an easy task for a tech who's done it at least once (let alone dozens).  But cost of labor varies, as does skill, and your level of trust, so due diligence in finding a good guy applies as a neck reset/setup is easy to do as much as it is easy to botch.

I had the same problem with all three of my Tecate Taylors, including my Holden Village Mini. The high action issues were resolved with a truss rod adjustment and sanding a little material off the bottom of the white plastic saddle. I was able to do the work myself, with the help of some very good UTUBE tutorials available online for free. I personally would not go for a neck reset unless it was a very old or abused instrument. But, it's your call, so Good Luck!

What Edward said. You can't do it, but Taylor service centers would be happy to.
