Does anybody have any tattoos?
« on: January 23, 2012, 04:50:31 PM »
Ok, I finished watching Season One of NY Ink this weekend and it got me to wondering…….does anyone here have any tattoos?

If so:

who did it
what is it
when did you get it
where is it -  :o (be nice and keep it G-rated please or I’ll have the mods and Josh after me) and,
why did you get it (them)

I was thinking a nice little koa ukulele would look good…… 8)

Yes.

Some dude.
A bald eagle clutching a rifle.
Right scapula.
I drew it, wanted to keep it awhile.

I'd like another, just can't settle on a design and body location.

Cool, I have been thinking about getting a tattoo for some time now.  I think I would get something on the front of my body so I could see it, all the people in NY Ink seem to get things on their ribcage (ouch!) or legs or something.

I have multiple tattoo's in various places.  Both shoulder blades, right arm, left bicep...I think thats it.  Mine all have a emotional tie to them, and I drew all of them. I got my first when I turned 18, and have scattered them here and there over the years.  My only mistake was going to small and spreading them out.  I now wish I would have gone bigger.  If I ever hit the lotto, I would be covered in them...don't know why, but I would.

If your going to get a uke, go ahead and get a full mural of IZ on your back ;D

Yup.  One, done by "T-Rex" in Cocoa Beach, and anchor with special inlay, a year ago when I was 60  :o   , on my left shoulder blade.  It has a special meaning and I waited a LONG time to find the right design.

Yay - tattoo thread!

1) Snake in shape of treble clef on back of left shoulder - done by Tattoo Sean in da Bronx (now retired). First got when I was in my late 20s;
2) Goddess inside right ankle, then added butterfly wings while getting divorced; Goddess was done by a shop in Phoenix in my late 30s; butterfly wings added by Jesse at Taos Tattoo, this year
3) Moderately sizable black & gray piece (approx 7-8" round); upper center back of tree of life under which an unidentified person is meditating, with some language underneath done by Missy at Talisman Tattoos in Oct. 2011.

..and as always, thinking about more ink....

Hey Michael, post a pick of that tattoo if you can, the chords sound really cool.

I am seriously thinking about this, just not sure how to pick a shop and such.  I'm still thinking koa uke or the back of my koa guitar like you did.

I don't have any tats but I have plenty of scars. I was a pretty active (but clumsy!) kid and scarred my knees quite a bit. I have a patch of tar embedded in one knee and a group of scrapes and scars on the other that looks like a map of the US. :)

I don't have, and never will have, any tattoos but my wife plays "connect the moles" on my back with a Sharpie and comes up with some interesting stuff.

hi TP516,
i'll have to meet up with a friend to get a pic of
that one because it's on my right shoulder blade

here's one more
characters are japanese kanji for 'w00t', which is a
'geek' term (think Homer Simpson & 'woo-hoo') ;D
the 600 series, koa & walnut inlays are related to my initials ...
my grandfather was born in hawaii, hence the koa inlay

in terms of a recommendation for a shop, i'd go by word-of-mouth,
if happen to see someone that has ink that you like the quality of -
failing that, if you go to a shop & see something that you like on one
of the artists there, i'd ask who did the artwork & if it's on an area
to where they could not have done it themselves, who did the ink

it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

Michael, are your tattoos really that dark? At least they seem dark in the pics like they used a lot of ink (must have hurt a lot!). I don't have any myself, but when I lived up in Jersey (about 1/2 hour from NYC), many women had small tattoos on their shoulders when tattoos weren't all that common. Although I did see a couple of women with their arms completely covered in tattoos. :o

hi Cindy,
they were dark right after i had 'em done & part it was due to 'bruising' -
for those that are considering getting one, think 'really bad sunburn' ...
sunburn doesn't bother me much, though & i've been blistered pretty
good while snow skiing, tubing at the pool & the one time i visited hawaii

the first tattoo was not as dark blue as the second one &
it has turned into more of a shade of royal blue over time &
the since the second one had no real 'shading', it was done in navy -
the first one was an 'outline & fill', so it used a good bit more ink

i'll try to get some other pics when i can ...
it's been close to 3 years since the last one &
in a way, that's kind of good because the last
3 don't represent particularly cheerful times :(

I have a half-sleeve on the left arm of a dragon with windfans, fire and ocean waves and a large cross that is practically a half-sleeve on the right arm.  Jack Feingold did the left arm at TCB Tatoos in McMinnville, Tn and Deano in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida did the cross on the right arm.  Going to get the cross finalized in March!!  Can't wait!!!
