One of the things I love about the Taylor serial number system — and this may not be the case anymore, not sure — is that you can easily determine your guitar’s birthday with the first eight digits. I’ve got a teenager in the house now — my 2005 210 had a birthday last week. Crazy how time flies!
I’ve been playing the 210 more recently than I have in years, thanks in part to the fact that the house we bought last year came with a guitar hanger in the office from the previous owner. I decided I trusted the kiddos enough to keep the 210 there, and it has been a joy to have within quick reach.
The 210 was the first guitar I paid with using my own money (I’d received my first guitar as a high school graduation gift five years prior) and my first foray into solid woods and premium American-made brands. I’d wanted a Taylor for years and the 210 — all-solid and California-made at the time — did not disappoint, despite being priced where a college student could afford it.
I still love this guitar and though I own several others that are worth more, this might still be the one I’d reach for in a fire.
