A belated HBD to my trusty old 210

One of the things I love about the Taylor serial number system — and this may not be the case anymore, not sure — is that you can easily determine your guitar’s birthday with the first eight digits. I’ve got a teenager in the house now — my 2005 210 had a birthday last week. Crazy how time flies!

I’ve been playing the 210 more recently than I have in years, thanks in part to the fact that the house we bought last year came with a guitar hanger in the office from the previous owner. I decided I trusted the kiddos enough to keep the 210 there, and it has been a joy to have within quick reach.

The 210 was the first guitar I paid with using my own money (I’d received my first guitar as a high school graduation gift five years prior) and my first foray into solid woods and premium American-made brands. I’d wanted a Taylor for years and the 210 — all-solid and California-made at the time — did not disappoint, despite being priced where a college student could afford it.

I still love this guitar and though I own several others that are worth more, this might still be the one I’d reach for in a fire.

Here it is with a recent addition to the family — my daughter’s Baby Taylor:

Happy B.Day to you, 210.  I also like that about Taylors.  In the same vein, I like that about British vehicles.  They keep the same plate (or at least used to) throughout its existence.

Happy bday to your 210! I also like having the birth dates for my guitars. They're fun to keep in mind, because the guitars tend to be such a happy part of our lives. Sometimes the dates have special connections too, like family birth dates, anniversary dates, etc.

We did a fun thread a few years ago re Taylor birth dates.

That's a nice-looking dreadnought (and I'm not a dreadnought fan!). So nice to see the older Taylors here. While I excitedly look forward to my new 614 V class in January, I certainly treasure my 90s Taylors - they each sound so beautiful - like an aged wine!

Enjoy!
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood
